1) Passport holders from most countries now require a visa to enter Batam. You can get the visa on arrival (VOA) at all Batam Ferry Terminals (there are 5 terminals on Batam) or at the Hang Nadim Airport Terminal if arriving by plane. The cost for a VOA is currently USD$10 for 7 days and USD$25 for 7 to 30 days. For more details check out the info here about Batam visas

2) Most foreign currencies are accepted at hotels in Batam, as a lot of the hotels rates are listed in either Singapore dollars (SGD) or United States dollars (USD). There are many money changers on Batam, as well as banks that can change money for you. The hotels also can change money, but you will always get the best rate from the money changers, located along the main road in Nagoya (Batam’s main city). 3) Batam time zone is GMT + 7 hours. Batam is the same time as Jakarta and is one hour behind Singapore & Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Batam does not use “Daylight Saving Time”

4) The local language in Batam is “Bahasa Indonesia” or “the language of Indonesia”. Most Indonesian’s in Batam can speak English, and at hotels, shopping centers, golf courses, etc there will always be many that can speak English very well. 5) To get to Batam you can take a ferry from either Singapore's HarborFront Center Ferry Terminal or Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal , or from Malaysia's Stulang Laut Ferry Terminal or Pasir Gudang Ferry Terminal. There are 5 Batam Ferry Terminals to choose from as your destination. You can also take a domestic flight from other parts of Indonesia to Batam’s airport Hang Nadim Airport Terminal

9) Batam has 6 golf courses and one golf driving range. They all offer golf club hire, as well as having caddies and golf buggies. You can also bring your own clubs and golfing gear. Many of the golf courses offer package deals that include return ferry tickets, ferry terminal transfers, a round of golf + lunch. 11) Batam has plenty of hotels to offer the visitor, ranging from 5 star to budget hotels. There are hotels in many parts of Batam, so you can choose from beach side hotels & resorts, hotels next to golf courses, hotels with spa packages, hotels in the main city (Nagoya) or villas in secluded locations. 12)There are good beaches in the Nongsa area of Batam, at Nongsa Marina & Resort and at Turi Beach Resort. There are also good beaches at Barelang Islands, just south of Batam, these islands are connected to Batam by bridges. For more details, check out Batam Beaches

13)Batam property is rented or sold through real estate agents or privately, depending on what the owner decides to do. Prices do vary, mainly according to location and size & type of property, age of property and its condition. You can usually bargain with the landlord or seller, and negotiate a good deal.
